Dr. Smith then snaps his fingers and stops swinging the pendulum as Dr. Smith asks for the money again. Grayden looks relieved that the pendulum is no longer enthralling him and tells Dr. Smith he’ll have the money next week. Grayden also tells Dr. Smith that he couldn’t hypnotize him. Dr. Smith tells Grayden he wants the money now and Grayden insists he will have it next week. Dr. Smith snaps his fingers and says “sleep” but nothing happens. Grayden laughs and makes fun of Dr. Smith and states he couldn’t hypnotize him and tells Dr. Smith to fuck off. Dr. Smith snaps his fingers a few times more as nothing happens and Grayden points it out and proudly announces that he can’t be hypnotized. Grayden then snaps his own fingers and immediately falls asleep.

Dr. Smith examines Grayden and states he has a couple ideas for punishment but first wants to see how suggestable Grayden is and gives him one command:

1)      Upon waking he will not remember anything that’s happened but will not be able to see or hear Dr. Smith. However, he will feel everything Dr. Smith does and will only be aware of what happens to his clothes a few seconds after Dr. Smith finishes touching that piece of clothing.

Grayden wakes up and returns to watching TV as if nothing happened with no memory of even seeing Dr. Smith. Dr. Smith calls out Grayden’s name, waves his hand in front of Grayden’s face and Grayden doesn’t react or move as he doesn’t hear him. Dr. Smith then taps Grayden’s shoulder and Grayden feels it and looks to that side to “see no one” and shrugs. Dr. Smith then feels Grayden’s chest and Grayden looks confused and wonders why he can feel someone touching his chest but there is no one there. Grayden decides he must be tired and gets up to look around the room to see if Dr. Smith is playing a prank on him. Grayden rebuttons his shirt and Dr. Smith unbuttons it again and opens it for Grayden be even more confused insisting he knows he buttoned it up. Grayden buttons his shirt back up and wonders what is happening. Dr. Smith, satisfied that Grayden is suggestable, snaps his fingers and puts him back to sleep.

Grayden is told that upon waking for the rest of his life he will allow Dr. Smith to do anything he wants to his body and believe it to be normal. Grayden is then told that he will now be able to see and hear Dr. Smith. Finally, Grayden’s told that he will count down from 10 to 1 and once he says “1” he will wake up.  Dr. Smith leaves the room as Grayden counts down from 10 to 1 and once Grayden says 1 he immediately wakes up. Grayden resumes watching TV and Dr. Smith enters and asks him for his rent. Grayden insists he doesn’t have the rent, but will have it next week.

We then see Dr. Smith whisper something to Grayden as he’s asleep and then snaps his fingers. Grayden wakes up and tells Dr. Smith:

Dr. Smith thanks Grayden for agreeing and Grayden states that Dr. Smith only gets to give him the 4 commands so that he doesn’t owe him any more money. Grayden asks Dr. Smith if he needs to put him to sleep for this to work and Grayden is told that he’s already been hypnotized and that he can give him commands while he’s completely awake. Grayden mentions he doesn’t remember being hypnotized and doesn’t think Dr. Smith hypnotized him at all.

Dr. Smith tells Grayden that when Grayden next touches his forehead he will no longer be able to remember his name, it will be permanently removed from his memory and will never be returned to him. Dr. Smith snaps his fingers and Grayden laughs insisting that Dr. Smith is just fucking with him and that he knows his name is “Grayden”. Grayden also tells Dr. Smith he must not even be a real hypnotist as he’s clearly not hypnotized. Dr. Smith encourages Grayden to prove and tells Grayden if he touches his forehead he will forget his name, but reminds him that he will never be able to remember it again. Grayden then touches his forehead and looks confused. Dr. Smith asks what’s wrong and Grayden admits he can’t remember his name. Grayden tries to remember it as Dr. Smith tries to tell him his name, but Grayden still is unable to remember it. Grayden finally admits he’s hypnotized and asks Dr. Smith to return his name. Dr. Smith tells Grayden that he never took his name away, Grayden did that himself by touching his own forehead and reminds Grayden that he told him he would never be able to remember his name again. Grayden acts frustrated as he asks if will ever be able to remember his name and Dr. Smith tells Grayden he will never remember his name for the rest of his life. Grayden insists that the hypnosis can’t last forever and he’ll remember his name eventually. Grayden tells Dr. Smith he gets 3 more commands and asks for the next one.
